Today is Halloween, which means that the roads and sidewalks will be teeming with trick-or-treaters. Let’s all slow down and keep everyone safe. There are several things that drivers can do to improve safety during dusk hours. Parents and children can also increase safety with a few simple steps.

We want to keep Halloween fun and get everyone home safe and sound. Read below for tips on how to keep your little ghosts and goblins safe tonight.

Halloween

Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treaters

Walk in groups or with an adult if the children are younger.

Wear glow in the dark sticks or bracelets, use reflectors or carry a flashlight (or all three!) to increase your chance of being seen.

Cross streets in crosswalks or at corners where cars will be expecting you. And look both ways!

Wear costumes that do not impede visibility.

Safety Tips for Drivers on Halloween

Be on the lookout for children walking along the roadway.

Always stop at crosswalks and proceed with caution through intersections.

Do not speed. Seriously, slow down.

Do not drive impaired… this means no drinking, no drugs, no substances if you are getting behind the wheel. Remember that some substances, even those with a prescription or that are legal, can still impair your judgment and reaction time while driving. An uber is $20, but a DUI could be $300.

Pedestrian Injury

Injuries to pedestrian can be very serious, even deadly, because there is nothing between the vehicle and the person for protection. Therefore, it is critical that drivers give pedestrians the right of way, especially children.

While we know Halloween is very exciting, it is important to speak to your children about staying safe while having fun.

If you have questions about your auto insurance policy, or wish to speak to an attorney call Graham & Mauer. An experience attorney will take your call.
